Supported by Rugby Australia’s Code of Conduct, Three Strikes Policy, and Integrity training, it ensures high standards across Queensland.

Nominations are OPEN for the 2025 ADZ Energy - Simon Abubakar - U12 Development Program 🏉

We’re excited to announce the 2025 BJRU U12 Development Program, culminating in the ADZ Energy Simon Abubakar Development Carnival, will be proudly hosted by Pine Rivers Pumas Rugby Union Club on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2025.

🌟 About the Carnival
Now in its 22nd year, this carnival honours the late Simon Abubakar, a passionate advocate for junior rugby and a valued supporter of the BJRU in the early 2000s. The program was created to help players successfully transition from junior to teenage rugby, where greater skill development is key.
Eight regional teams—made up of 184 players from across Greater Brisbane, along with invitational teams from the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Darling Downs—will compete in a weekend of high-energy rugby and fun.

📝 How to Join
Nominations are now open to all eligible BJRU-registered U12 players. This is an individual nomination process (not club/team-based), and in 2025, no selection rounds will be held. Positions are filled on a first-in, first-placed basis, so get in quick!

Expression of Interest – Competition Assistant (Casual)
🐨Brisbane Junior Rugby Union

BJRU is currently seeking expressions of interest for a Competition Assistant to support the delivery of our 2025 junior rugby season.

This casual role is ideal for someone passionate about rugby, with strong administrative skills and a keen eye for detail. You’ll work closely with our Competition Manager to ensure the smooth running of the Saturday competition, specifically for our younger age groups.

The 2nd Skills specific trial will still be on Sunday 25th May - Location to be determined based upon field availability.

U18 (players born 2007/2008) Fri 27th June - Sun 28th June 2025

Teams will travel to and from Townsville as a group and stay together - travel dates may vary.
The week following this, one U16 team will be chosen from the two, to compete in the XVs Girls National Championships to be held at the Sunshine Coast, along with our U18 Girls team. Transport to this tournament is the responsibility of the players and guardians.
One team of U14 girls will be selected to compete in the Brisbane City vs Queensland Country matches - location and time TBC

Eligibility -
Players MUST be registered as a season player with their local club (within the BJRU Association) and 14s and 16s, be participating in BJRU XVs GEM Series (minimum 50% game requirement).

Selected players must attend all selection days, training sessions, and be available for all Country Championship dates.

The season premiers will be announced, and the BJRU U18 Dream Team will be finalized. With over 20 years of experience coaching and cultivating winning rugby cultures across Wales, the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge to our program. As a World Rugby Level 3 Coach, Educator, and Trainer, he has played a key role in advancing the sport in both the 15-a-side and 7-a-side formats. His expertise has been sought after by elite organizations, including the Queensland Rugby Union (Queensland Reds), the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in Papua New Guinea, Pacific Aus Sports, and the Tongan Rugby Union in Tonga.
Beyond coaching, Chris is a dedicated rugby educator and the author of 17 books on the sport, further demonstrating his passion for player and coach development. He is also the founder of Develop A Player, an initiative focused on nurturing talent and fostering excellence in rugby at all levels.

The Junior Colts U18 Lightning Series is a fifteen-aside six (6) week competition run for boys under 18s (born 2007, 2008). It's run on a flexible timetable on Sundays between 23rd Feb and the 30th March 2025.

The competition is open to all, from clubs (junior or senior), schools, other sports, and other regions to enter teams.

Team entry for Boys is U17 (players born 2008/2007) only - please do not nominate if you are outside this age group.

Eligibility:
Players MUST be registered to their local BJRU club (within BJRU association only) and participated in BJRU Competition (minimum 5 game requirement).

All training and selection sessions must be attended, and selected players available for both competition dates.
Players from associations outside of BJRU are not eligible for selection in the BJRU Representative Teams.

Selection process:
Eligible/Nominated players will be assessed as follows:

The Under 10 Development Program is on the road today, to show their skill @rangersrugby68 - Thanks Ipswich Rangers for hosting our 12 teams tonight.

We are thrilled to have our interstate visitors at this carnival all the way from the central coast of NSW. Let's make the @coffscrusadersjuniorrugby feel welcome. Last night after a huge day on the road they played their first 2 games - bet you slept well.
