U10 - U12 COMPETITION
The U10 - U12 age groups are where young players begin to experience the full excitement of rugby union while continuing to develop in a fun, supportive and player-focused environment.
As the game evolves, so do the opportunities to learn. Players build on the fundamental skills developed in their early years, gaining a deeper understanding of teamwork, decision-making, game strategy and positional play. With increased responsibility on the field comes greater confidence, resilience and independence, all while continuing to enjoy the camraderie that makes rugby union so special.
Whether your child is taking their next step in the game, or discovering new possibilities, U10 - U12 provides the perfect environment to grow, compete and build a life long love of rugby union.

Growing the game.
The U10 and U11 age groups represent an exciting step forward as players transition to the traditional 15-a-side format, further developing their skills, game awareness and understanding of rugby union in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
Played on Sundays, the competition encourages players to build confidence, embrace teamwork and continue developing both individually and as part of a team. With increased playing numbers and more specialised positions, athletes begin to experience the full game while continuing to learn in an age-appropriate setting.
The season begins with four weeks of Skills Rounds, allowing teams to play a variety of opponents while BJRU assesses team development and then groups teams into colour bands of similar playing strength. This approach creates balanced and enjoyable matches throughout the remainder of the season, providing every player with the opportunity to learn, compete and succeed.
The focus remains firmly on player development over results. There are no formal divisions, finals or premierships, ensuring the emphasis stays on skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork and fostering a lifelong enjoyment of the game.
We continue to build capable rugby union players, confident teammates and young people who love being part of the rugby union community.

Preparing for the Next Level.
An important milestone in a players rugby union journey as they experience a more structured competition while continuing to develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the game.
The season begins with four weeks of grading rounds, giving teams the opportunity to compete against a range of opponents before being placed into the division best suited to their current level of development. This process helps create balanced and competitive matches, ensuring every team has the opportunity to be challenged, improve and enjoy their rugby.
Following grading, teams compete in 10 weeks of competition rounds, with each match contributing to the season standings. At the conclusion of the competition, the Premiership is awarded to the team that finishes first on the competition ladder ("first past the post"), recognising consistency and performance across the entire season.
While competition becomes a greater focus in U12, BJRU remains committed to fostering positive experiences, good sportsmanship and continued player development.
