U18 Boys LIGHTNING SERIES
2026 Gilbert Rugby U18 BOYS Junior Colts Lightning Series
Brisbane Junior Rugby Union is pleased to confirm details for the 2026 U18 Junior Colts Lightning Series — a 15-a-side, six-week XVs competition for boys Under 18.
The Lightning Series is played on Sunday mornings (10:20am kick-off) and is open to all clubs, regions and schools wishing to nominate teams.
Competition Format
• Six (6) week gala-style competition
• Single host venue each week, rotating between participating clubs
•ALL players and officials must be registered in Rugby Xplorer to participate.
• ALL Coaches and Managers must be registered and selected in the Match Day App
• ALL Coaches must be Smart Rugby compliant
• Rugby Xplorer will be used for registrations, draws, match scoring and competition tables

Registrations
18 December 2025 – Registrations open in Rugby Xplorer (subject to club registrations being live)
Players must register under XVs Junior Colts at their respective club.
TERM 1
9 February – FINAL team nominations due
22 February – Round 1 @ Sunnybank
1 March – Round 2 Wynnum & District Rugby Union
8 March – Round 3 Riverside Junior Rugby Union Club
15 March – Round 4 Norths Junior Rugby
22 March – Round 5 Easts Rugby Union
29 March – Grand Final Albany Creek Brumbies
29 March – Dream Team Announcement
Date TBC – Training Session with Queensland Reds Academy
19 April 2026 – Match vs NSW Presidents XV (Venue TBC)
Awards & Representative Opportunities
Gilbert Rugby Lightning Series Player of the Series
• Determined via a 3–2–1 points system, nominated weekly by both team management and opposition team management
U18 Boys Dream Team
• Selected at the conclusion of the tournament
• Selections coordinated by Reds Academy staff and BJRU Selectors
• Dream Team to participate in a Reds Academy training session
• Merit team to play NSW Presidents XV on 19 April 2026
Clubs, schools and regions are encouraged to plan early and submit nominations by the due date.
